Demo / Promo Recordings

A recording of exceptional quality can be a very valuable promotional tool for artists in the early stages of their career. Be it concert venues, booking agents, or audition / competition panels, all will appreciate the benefits of a high quality recording.

VENUE: A suitable recording venue can be anything from a small church to a nice sounding rehearsal room. Ideally, there should be minimal background noise (traffic, environmental, industrial, electrical etc.) and the room should complement the instruments and chosen repertoire. The better sounding the room, the better sounding the recording. We are happy to advise on suitable locations, but booking and negotiations with the venue must be carried out by the artist in advance of the session.

SESSION: Our experience suggests that an optimal demo session length is 3 hours. From this, assuming good preparation, the artist can expect to extract 30 minutes of usable final material. We will arrive at the recording venue before the session and set up all necessary equipment. Where applicable, you should provide us with scores of all the repertoire to be recorded.

POST-PRODUCTION: After the recording session, we will sort and edit all recorded material. The editing process involves cutting, pasting, splicing and comping the recorded material, adding fade-ins/fade-outs, and removing unwanted noises (chair squeaks etc.) to create one satisfactory whole. Our ethos is that good editing practise should enhance the accuracy of the performance while maintaining musical line and meaning. For demo recordings, we like to keep editing to a minimum. (If the need for a lot of editing is anticipated, please consider a bespoke session.)

DELIVERY FORMAT: In most circumstances, the artist will require the final material in CD-DA format (this is the industry accepted 44.1KHz/16bit CD audio format). We provide two master CD-DA as standard from which the artist is free to burn as many copies as required.* For a more professional touch, we can also provide silk-screen printed CDs. It might also be convenient to have shorter clips in MP3 format for e-mailing, websites and other such uses.
