Natural Studio provides all manner of recording services. Based in Glasgow but open to traveling country-wide, our chosen equipment is fully portable and recording takes place at the venue of your choice.

Be it musician's living room or city concert hall, local chapel or town hall, soloist or chamber ensemble, all sessions receive equal attention to detail and utilise only the highest quality recording equipment. Our speciality is in the recording of acoustic music. Our continued aim is always to capture instruments in a natural acoustic with the highest fidelity possible.

Douglas Whates was born in 1981 to a Scottish mother and a half English/half German father and spent his formative years in Scotland, England and the Middle East. He returned and has remained in Scotland since 1996. He moved to Glasgow in 1999 to study composition with Dr. Gordon McPherson at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and graduated in 2004 with a 1st class honours.

He has been involved in recording music for over a decade, founded Natural Studio in 1999, and is co-director of Scottish based label Natural Studio Records for whom he is chief sound engineer, editer, designer, and much more besides.
